Bob,
As to what the entry fees pays for. It goes towards every cost that the
host club has in putting on a VTR Convention/Regional. For instance
printing costs, mailings, name badges, sometimes meeting rooms, cold
bottled water on the field as was this case in Texas, trophies and also any
special guest speakers that might do seminars etc. This is just to name a
few. As for the $75 this year for each car we do not know why this was the
case. Usually a second car is much less. As for the Convention being a
fundraiser for VTR, any money that the host club makes stays with them.
When VTR did the convention In Bartonsville, PA in 1981 we kept the entry
fee low to encourage a good turnout but of course times were different back
then. Triumph was still in production and trophies were 100% donated by
British Leyland. Unfortunaely costs have risen everywhere and sometimes
people have to pick and choose which meet they will attend. Let's face it
the cost of hotel rooms for one meet alone can mount up. As we said earlier
maybe it would be nice for VTR just to have a Gathering one year with no
trophies and make the entry fee nominal with a "no frills approach". Just
a good time enjoying one another's cars and each other's company.
