Sounds just right to me, Darrell.
I found that it was easy to figure out on the car ... assemble both inner
pivots without engaging the outer ends of the arms. Then as you rotate the
arms on the inner pivots until the outer ends start to mesh, you can see
which arm "wants" to go outermost (next to the ball joint). At least on my
cars, you would have to apply some force (deforming the rubber bushes) to
get them to go the other way.

Probably less than you would think. Might shorten the life of the bushings
a tiny bit, but I'd guess the changes in steering geometry (caster & camber)
would be too small to notice.
