I bought an off-the-shelf hood release cable at AutoZone, hooked the cable
to the existing one at the bonnet release, and simply dropped the cable down
through the frame.  The handle hangs just above the frame near the firewall
and is easily accessible with a hand under the car.  Its nearly invisible
and works like a champ.

Actually, the Mayflower is in the 1620 edition (1620? 1607 was Jamestown,
right?).

I am in the process of installing an emergency bonnet release cable in my 76
TR6.  My plan was to route the cable up to the grill, but at a recent club
meeting another club member said that he simply installed a second cable
alongside his primary cable.  This seems like such an elegant solution, I
thought I would give it a try.  I am curious if anyone else has used this
approach.  No particular hurry on this, but I would be interest in any
comments.  As always, thanks for your assistance.  (By the way, I thought
the
Mayflower article was in the 1492 edition)
