Frank,
  Something that I do is to cut and solder a very small piece (about 3/16")
of a straight connector that is normally used to solder two pipes together.
This in effect creates the lip you are looking for. It is usually easier to
cut after it is soldered on, just make sure there are no blobs of solder in
the way of the cutter wheels. It also helps to smooth off the ends so the
hose might not be cut. I know that they are avilable in 1/2" but I'm not too
sure about 5/8" (in my bedroom community I'm suprized they haven't banned
solder yet). Around here if Home Depot doesn't sell it it is a long drive to
find it.
