David,

If you can find a parts book the part numbers will tell you the type and
size.
A screw is fully threaded, a bolt has a nonthreaded shank. The number
in the parts book is diameter and length, i.e., HZS 0405 is Hex-head,
zinc plated, screw,
04 = 4/16 (1/4") in diameter, 05 = 5/8" long.  Diameter is in 1/16's and
length in 1/8's.

Roger Moment sent a partial code for the prefixes - Thanks Roger!
-------------------------------------------------
A question had been raised about bolt coding, prompted by an error found
in
the Concours Guidelines.

Here is a table of info to translate letter codes. I'll update the
Guidelines as well.
All codes are for UNF threaded fasteners

HBN Hex Bolt Plain
HBZ Hex Bolt Zinc plated
HNS Hex Screw Plain
HZS Hex Screw Zinc plated
PMN Recessed pah-head screw (phillips slot)
PMZ Recessed pan-head screw, zinc plated
CMN Recessed countersunk-had screw, plain (phillips slot. flat
head)
CMZ Recessed countersunk-had screw, zinc plated
LNN Nyloc nut, plain
LNZ Nyloc nut, zinc
FNN Slotted nut, plain (what we call a "castle" nut for use with
cotter pins)
FNZ Slotted nut, zinc
-----------------------------------------------------
I'm still working on the non hex-head fasteners.
Fasteners with the depressed head and letters 'round the edge can be
purchased from:

British Tool and Fastener
2030 Andre Ave
Los Osos CA 93402
1-800-587-6475

Philip Brown has been very helpful.
Usual disclaimers apply.
Hope this helps,
Dave Woerpel
