What changed, at least on the Mk3 GT6, was that they had deeper brake drums.
My car's DPO had installed a MkI brake drum on one side, resulting in about a
1/2" gap between the edge of the drum and the inside edge of the brake shoe.
Even so, there is still a 1" difference in both the distance to the oil shield
and total axle length on later cars. As far as I can tell, the hubs, uprights
and trunnions are all the same from year to year. I have quite a large pile of
them to choose from.
Dave
the uprights never changed across all model years.
the long axles cam in in 71 on spits but the swing spring
did not come in till 73.
Yes... the longer axle with the shorter spring created a bit more camber
as the upright would have been leaning in a bit more with the shorter
spring.
BUT..there were two different specs for how far in you were suppose to drive
the oil shield onto the axle. Why?... I'm not sure since the hubs didn't
change either
