I actually have a copy of both the "Shape of things to come" TR7 advertisment,
and the one with the Spitfire car firing up and driving down a runway beside
the Spitfire 'plane. That one ended with the wonderfully corny line - "Not
only do you get the car, and the girl, you get a piece of history!". There is
also one with a red Spit zooming along the road, pursued by a police car (US
police car, so it must have been a US advert originally). At the end the Spit
comes to a screeching halt in front of a hospital, the police car pulls up
behind, and the policeman gets out and helps an about-to-give-birth girl out
of the passenger seat and into the hospital.
I know that this last one is unfeasible - by the time my wife was even half-way
through her pregnancy there was no way she could get in and out of Daffy, and
if I'd suggested driving her to the hospital in Daffy with her in labour I
doubt I'd have lived long enough to witness the birth!
These are all on a video given away free with 'Classic & Sports Car' a couple
of years ago, which has a fairly random assortment of short video clips, such
as old races back to early Mille Miglia type stuff, recent "revival" type race
meetings, as well as a selection of corny BL adverts from the '70s. I would
love to share the Triumph ones with you all, but I have no idea how that could
be done.
