Hi David.

One bit of advice that I learned from a review of trimmers
a few years ago is to look for an engine where the rod end of
the piston is supported on both sides. Most of the cheap trimmers
support only from the shaft side. One sure way to recognize a
doubly-supported crank is a recoil starter on the end of the trimmer.
If the starter is between the cylinder and the shaft, it's probably
a single-ended support.

Since I use my trimmer for only about 30 minutes once a month,
I've gone with a cheap weed-eater with a single-ended support.
It's in its third year and doing fine.

Jim
