Get a piece of 1 1/4 inch sink trap pipe from your local hardware store . . . the trumpet shaped piece for bathroom sinks, and cut it to about four inches long, maintaining the flare at one end. Drill two 1/4 inch holes, opposite each other about an inch below the flare end. Drive the pipe down into the filler opening, protecting the flare with a 2 by 4, until the flare seats against the cork seal. Best 15 minute job I ever did for my car.
