Don't worry about it Scott.  The manual's "1/2 inch below the filler neck"
isn't a critical measurement.  You're losing some coolant out the overflow
due to expansion, which isn't unusual for these cars.  If the level drops
to 1/2 inch above the bottom of the expansion tank, and if it normalizes
at that level (doesn't drop lower), then consider it normal for your
engine.
