Replacing a wiped big end bearing or a scarred cam is a bigger pain.

Do it right, lube the engine up BEFORE turning it over - pull the distributor,
spin the oil pump and get all those vital sliding interfaces lubed up before
they have to move against each other under (even a small) load!

I know it was recommended on the List to pull the dizzy and spin the little
oil pump gear counterclockwise to get oil circulating. But that is a pain. So
is pulling the coil wire and running the starter a bit the next best way to
lube everything when a car has been sitting for a long time?
Thanks
Linda

I'd dump the oil and filter and replace both, due to possible water
condensation on top of the oil in the pan. Cheap insurance, IMHO. Then
I'd pull the plugs and check them. Before reinstalling the plugs, I'd
disconnect the power to the coil and spin the motor over with the
starter until you see some oil pressure on the gauge. This will insure
that all of the bearings have oil and won't be dry if the engine
starts quickly.

Am I paranoid? You bet!

make sure that there was no obvious issues, no oil on the ground, leakage
etc.
B I checked the water level in the radiator and when I took off the radiator

have had the battery on a charger and will put it back in tomorrow. B With
that said, do you have any suggestions on steps that I should take before
trying to turn it over.
