If the big nut comes off the back, losing 5th is the FIRST symptom. The rest of
the transmission will start to get funky before too long. Another possibility is
that the 2-piece 5th gear has come apart. Pulling the tranny is the only option
that I know of.

Hey list,
the sun is finally coming through again in Colo. Springs. Starting to see
some roadsters on the road again (including mine). I have a technical
question. A friend has a 2000 and the 5th gear does not "exist"/ All other
gears are ok.
What is the problem and what is required to fix it? If the big nut falls off
of the main shaft, is this the only symptom?
Thanks for your help. I've never run into this problem.
