Hello Ben,

Frankly, I don't see any connection between those problems except for the
word "points".  You have two problems with points.

First:  the points in the distributor are probably burning up because your
condensor is failing.  Replace 'em both and THAT problem will likely be
gone.  Be SURE to check all your connections as a loose or corroded one CAN
cause the problem.

Second, it sounds like the (current limiting) points in the regulator are
sticking.  In the old days, we'd pop the cover off the regulator and take a
fine emery cloth to the points therein.  There were usually three sets of
points under that cover.
