Several replies mention the ballast resistor - this is proabably *NOT* the
cause of these problems. THe ign sys only need 7.5v to operate, and a full
12v only when starting. THis is what the resistor is for - letting full pwr
through when cranking.
The most typical symptom of it's failure is the car starts fine, but then
fails to run as soon as you let off the key.. External symptoms: A lot of the
time it will crumble away, or show signs of extreme overheat.(charred
spots/melted wire.connections)
THe other ideas: consensor, etc sound more like the culprit in this case.
