Basically, "yes" to all questions.

Yes, they lower the car about 2 inches.
Yes, they are overkill on the street (at least the rears are).
Yes, you'll benefit from the better handling - as long as the road is smooth.
Yes, they will affect your tire clearances, particularly in the rear.
