The "show" that Mike was referring to is something Les and I have been
working on for at least 2 years now. We do not want to step on any toes
or interfere with any existing events (Roadster or otherwise) but we
both felt that an all-Datsun meet was the best way to keep a major show
going and alive over the long haul. We looked at the country and saw
that for the most part the 3 biggest areas of Datsun concentration were
SoCal, Texas, and Florida. Secondary centers were the pacific northwest
and the west coast in general, plus the Ohio area. We realized that
there was no place equi-distant to all these areas (Florida was the
problem) so we looked to get as many of them as we could. Once we
eliminated Florida and triangulated off the others, well Denver was the
heart of the nation, so to speak. We also realized that Denver offered
lots of other pluses such as race tracks for track events, good weather,
lots of scenic routes for tours, and non-car stuff for the families. We
have approached the Denver Z folks about it and have put out feelers to
others as well. It would be great to make it happen in 2000, but we want
to ensure that the event will have good support and attendance and will
also be able to continue for years to come so we want to make it right
and not rush it. One thing I saw at various Datsun shows was a lack of
vendor support compared to the British enthusiasts shows for example.
This lack of support and involvement stunts the shows and limits their
growth and long term viability. I felt that to make the show a continued
success we would need to make it more vendor friendly and so we are also
looking at working with the major Datsun specialist vendors on this
project. We will also be talking to Nissan about it as well. We welcome
any and all support and suggestions.
