It seems like you are in graduate school (return e-mail address). I
have been where you are. Car restoration/ conservation and graduate
school, though not mutually exclusive - thankfully, will require
similar attention to detail and follow-up efforts.
After several years of grad school, I learned that I NEVER got ahead
when I cut corners. I lost time by repeating the experiment. Car
restoration brought those points back home.
I don't know how these comments would affect your decisions (not
really my intention). But, if you ever have to repeat the job, then
that would really be a PITA.
