Media Blasting

I have acess to a blast cabinate at work.  I think it is sand and it 
will fit some pretty large parts, besides I live in the woods and 
anything I can't fit in the cabinate I can borrow my uncle's blaster to 
spray bigger parts in the woods.  My question is what parts of the motor 
should I blast and can I use sand (come to think of it the one at work 
might be glass)?  I'm looking mainly at using it to help clean up my 
motor for astetic reasons.
