Those Cannondale frames are probably the strongest aluminum frames ever
made. When they first came out, we "tested" one at the bike shop where I was
working by laying the frame on its side and having a 200 lb. guy stand on
the rear dropout. This would have bent most steel frames, but the Cannondale
aluminum frame did not budge.

But still I would get an armored box. Airline employees seem to have a
sporting interest in destroying bicycles.

FYI,

I have had 3 bike frames damaged/bent from airlines handling.. and they were
100% chromoly frames.. I cringe to imagine what more damage would have
happened if they were aluminium..
