You won't like the news.
The airlines have not supported bikers like they do golfers. Therefore, they
will ask you to pay for excess baggage to the tune of $150 (varies by
airline).
In addition, I would recommend that you borrow/rent/purchase an armored bike
carrier. Normally, the airline can/will provide you with a bike carton.
However, it's not too hard to taco a Cannondale frame by launching somebody
else's 80 lb suitcase at it.
