I believe Jack London said that spit crackles at 25 below.  Haven't
confirmed that, even though I have been outside at colder temps.  My
personal record in Minnesota is inside at -54 F and outside later the same
day at something colder than -40.  This was in Brainerd, and long-time
listers know it is part of a much longer story.  They are reaching for their
delete keys about now.
