Hi guys,
>From the point of view of 'just another participant' in SM, the back
seat wording was a compromise that wasn't well thought out, and will be
modified at a later date. There are Mustangs that came from the factory
without a rear seat, they are legal in SP, and through the
update/backdate SP rules, allows all Mustangs to remove their back
seats. It was also decided that having the factory backseat in the car
during runs was not needed, everyone is allowed to remove the seat.

The intention of the rule, in my opinion, was to require the cars to
have room for a backseat, excluding the Miatas and CRX, and now as I
think more about it, the term "RX'en" was meant to be excluded as well.
The RX-7 does fall under that umbrella, but I still believe that RX-3
and other small agile cars were the target.

Suspension is free in SM, if a kit can be produced that bolts to the
stock mounting points of 2nd gen car, and accepts a 3rd gen suspension,
it's very, very legal. Grey areas aren't encountered until the bodywork
is mangled to allow the new suspension to fit.... I know nothing about
RX-7's excuse my ignorance, but I do know that they *will* eventually be
allowed in the class when the class SM becomes a category with
subclasses SM1/SM2....

I finally saw AB's point about looking at early results at National
events and realized that I miscommunicated my point in the original
message. When I said "Look at the results" , I did not mean to actually
look at the times, merely the entry lists. I could have been a lot more
clear there. The Supra was entered very early in the program without a
protest, I believe the RX-7 could have been entered at the same time.
Now, unfortunately, it is too late for this version of the class.

For the record, I am all for allowing the P-Cars, the RX-7, the Supras,
the M3's, and all of the other "elite" cars in the class. They just
become targets for turbocharged post-CSP cars.....

Have fun, first real snow of the year here...
Dale
