Several of you responded to my post on my Grand Prix and the smaller
supercharger pulley putting me in EM. If it was easy to take off for race
days I would do it and put my stock one back on. Then I could run ESP.
However, the shaft is not keyed and the smaller pulley is pressed on like
the stock one was. Those that have tried to get it off with pulley tools
have either damaged the pulley or the bearings. A performance company with
a special tool they created came to our club gathering to take our stock one
off and put the smaller one on. Only other option is to replace the stock
supercharger snout with a keyed one so you can change out the pulley. That
is expensive though and I don't plan to go any lower in size unless I do
other mods. So unless I want to spend a lot of money the pulley is stuck.

Why do I need the smaller pulley? It gave me about a 35-40% increase in
boost and I really like it! Does that mean I should really be in EM.....I
don't know. I wouldn't say that it made my HP or torque any greater than
any other car running in ESP, considering there are Z28's, Mustang GT's, and
TransAms running in ESP. A lot of those same cars have beat me in the 1/4
mile....and I have beat some of them as well (but it was real close).

Thanks for the replies. I have found all this very interesting and maybe
the SCCA will eventually come out with another class for all these
supercharged sedans/coupes that want to run with a couple mods. The factory
is putting more and more of them on the street and a pulley swap is one of
the main mods.
