[TR] Hi-torq starter

Actually, it matters a lot. I just found out the starters for the press-on ring gear have 9 teeth, whereas those for the bolt-on have 10. If you don’t get it right you’ll burn out the starter.

It’s my understanding that it doesn’t matter. And it doesn’t matter if the ring gear is “flipped one way or the other”. I think Randall pointes our a few years ago that the hi-torque starters engage and then start to turn as opposed to the TR starters that spin then engage.

Any way of telling if a modern hi-torque starter from a TR3 is for a press-on or bolt-on ring gear?
