[Mgs] Fuel pump failure

Thanks Dave.

The temp pump was a box shaped electrical pump. Unlike the original pump it
always made a lot of clicks and indeed was pretty noisy.

As I have plenty of old inner tubes left of my classic mopeds, it is easy to
make a sound insulation solution.

BTW I'm located in the Netherlands, so I think I'll try to find a local
supplier of such pumps.

For what pumping capacity should I look for?

Yes, Moss is pretty expensive and the electronic pump and the conversion set
are n/a currently.

Cheers,

Hans

You will get lots of answers. Unless you are an originality nut, there is
NO reason to go back to the old pump. If you want to overpay, the
electronic pump from moss is the way to go.

If not, and you want rock solid reliability, go with a Facet, AND carry a
spare. Wire it with "clips" so that you can remove it and replace it
without doing a bunch of splicing and cutting. I've attached a receipt for
one. I suspect you are in the UK so you probably won't want to order from
this supplier!

Also - these are a bit noisy so put a pad between it and the car

Subject: [Mgs] Fuel pump failure

Dear listers,

Two days ago we went for a nice Indian Summer drive with the GT.

The GT recently had been MOT tested (the very final one, as next year the
car will be 50 years old and the MOT test is compulsory anymore).

After a visit at a nice terrace at a lake with some drinks, I tried to start
the GT again, but the starter cranked without success.

We quickly found, that the original SU pump failed.

As I had no spare pump with me, I had to call the road services, who made a
temp fix by adding an extra pump in series.

Now my question is what is best for the final repair.

New set of points - available via Moss Motors a.o.

Convert to electronic points? - Is in backorder @ Moss now.

Replace the diaphragm as well? The diaphragm still looks fine.

Any experiences?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Hans
