The solution to that is to stay in Bakersfield. It's not a shopping
mecca, but if your SO is ok with going to the track for the day and
feels adequately compensated by a nice dinner in a good restaurant and a
quiet night in a good hotel, it's a win-win situation.
My wife and I have been doing this for several years now and have
actually gotten to like it. Even though it's my least favorite track,
it's actually one of the more restful weekends.
