What I think is really needed is Stewards that will talk to drivers that
are obviously in need of attitude modification, more training, a slower
car or a return to golf.
The Stewards should be the intermediaries between drivers and flaggers
who complain and those who are the subjects of the complaints. They
should be firm - and we all know it's hard to tell a "Walter Mitty" that
he belongs in a slower car or should go spend the week with Bondurant or
Skip Barber or should be racing beat-up stock cars on his local track.
Or should become friendly with Eli instead or Reeves Callaway!
Most of us know a bunch of drivers who need this kind of talking-to;
they are the ones we know not to pass except on the long straights.
Waiting until one of them causes an incident to slap their wrists is a
crime!
I know some organizations have a driver's committee, but since a member
of one of them deliberately ran me off the road a couple of years ago I
can't say I have a high opinion of the idea....
Face it guys - this in not a "sport" that should be egalitarian.
