You're right Cheryl, however, I wasn't "advising" him to drive off line.  It=
's 
just that that's where I seem to see these newbies and I was commenting on 
that.

Ted, in general I agree with your suggestions.  
However, and this is a big however, I strongly disagree
with your advice to be "off the racing line to stay
out of peoples' way."  

If slower cars and newer drivers aren't on the line, they
aren't predictable.

My instructors tell me to always stay on the line (in my Vee) 
and let the fast cars figure out how and when to pass me.
I watch my mirrors closely and point folks around. 

Having been in the position of passing a car occasionally it's
comforting to get the acknowledgement from the car being
overtaken.

Again, in general, I agree with your comments.
