Never done a TR4 myself, but from the Bentley they look to be the same
rubber/steel/nylon things used in the later TR3/A/B columns.  You just need
more force to drive them out; like a big length of iron water pipe.

Yes, lots.  Basically when removing them, you have to shear off the rubber
'pegs' that hold them in place.  (At least that seemed to be the easiest way
to remove the ones on my TR3A.)  But then you can compress the pegs when
installing the new ones, and they will slip through the tube until they pop
out through their holes.  A little dish soap or silicone spray will help too
(but really isn't necessary).
