Well, something like that.  But, the "magic" voltage is actually more like
12.9 (depending somewhat on the temperature of the battery), so anything
over that will charge it, eventually.

But since in our application, it's important to charge the battery as
quickly as practical, and car batteries can stand a slight overcharge
without appreciable damage (plus automotive regulators aren't all that
precise), they are typically set to about 14 volts.  My Lucas alternator
repair manual says 13.9 - 14.4 is acceptable.
