I started having the same problems, without even changing the generator. I
have one int he car which I got off of an old mg midget harness and stuff I had
lying around. At the moment I am the proud owner of a TR4A which has all of
the gauges working.

I was about to buy one privately (I think the price was $12) but decided to
give that collection of voltage stabilizers one last try,
I would be interested in how this works, if you decide to go solid state.
