Hi List!
I want to thank everyone who took the time & effort to reply to my
plea for help. I had one person suggest installing an expansion plug,
[like the thermos plugs of yester-year :-D ]. I didn't do that, yet. I
did purchase one & will keep it in the car along with the fan belt, etc.
for those 'just in case' emergencies. I went to several different part
stores looking for a core plug 1 47/64, but didn't find one. So I
purchased a 1 3/4 metal core plug with a lip on it, & another on 1
49/64. I then cleaned the head well where the plug was to go. I was told
by one parts store to install it dry, & several others said to use
something to seal it in. I went with the suggestion of using loctite.
So I used red loctite with the 1 3/4 plug which was 1/64 to large
:-\ . I then pounded it in with a socket just to fit inside the plug.
Being that I did it tonight, I shall wait until tomorrow to install the
coolant [thus giving the red loctite a chance to set firm.
Now I'm hoping that the reason the plug blew was because the machine
shop didn't flatted it out enough with the ball peen hammer. Is this
wishful thinking or is there some reason that this plug blew after 186
miles on the engine? I do have a sleeved thermostat in the engine.
Any & all responses to this question are welcome.
