FWIW, I believe the important thing is to have the pushrod aligned with the
axis of the slave cylinder, so that there is no side load on the piston.
Otherwise, it will tend to wear the bore oblong.

I wouldn't take the photo in 'Practical Hints' as gospel, since it continued
to show the TR2 type slave cylinder up until around the 5th or 6th edition.
The photo may well have been taken from another car.

The Stag workshop manual actually has photos of a TR6 transmission ...
fairly similar except the Stag has the clutch slave (and hence the lever
arm) on the other side ... bet there's been a few people burnt by that one!
