I am not fully up on the Trade Sanctions with Cuba but I'm having a real hard
time believing they can not get Brake Fluid. If Canadians and others (American
who go through Canada) can travel to Cuba then my guess is that Cuba can get
brake fluid. I would believe that it is expensive and being that the Cubans
are an intelligent and resourceful nation they would find something less
expensive to use in those 1952 Buicks. If I were ever to travel to Cuba, and
I'd like to but will not jeopardize my freedom here in the good old USA, I
wouldn't step out in any traffic; especially in front of one of those early
50's behemoth GM 3 ton battle wagons with Joy in their cylinders! I can just
see it now, an explosion of wheel cylinders under heavy pressure and the
cleanest brakes (breaks too) in all of Cuba.

There was a program on PBS not so long ago called the "The cars of Cuba".
Importing anything has been a problem there since the revolution so they do
their best to keep what they have running. Seems like they do a damn good
job at it and there are a number of fine looking '50's cars. One of the
things they can't get is brake fluid, so they make do with a mixture of
mostly dish washing soap. If I remember correctly, they add a little oil.
And these cars are used daily as taxi cabs. Puts a different perspective on
Dot 4 vs. Dot 5. Maybe just thow in some Dot.Joy and be done with it :-)
