I have just recently joined this email list after purchasing a 71 TR6 and as
one of my first updates I wish to upgrade to a spin-on oil filter. I have
noticed what appears to be different types of spin-on kits available from,
say, Moss, VB, and TRF. Does anyone here on the email list have any positive
or negative experiences with any of these adapters?

Dave Massey replied:
Mitch, I have been using one on my TR6 for the last 12 years and have had no
trouble with it. I like it because I have oriented the filter in the
downward position so that the filter does not drain out when the engine is
off as does the stock filter. This means the engine builds up pressure much
more quickly. I give this mod the thumbs-up.

For the record, this modification, among other similar mods is entirely
acceptable in the judging criteria for a new award and a nnew class that
will make its first appearance at the VTR Covention next year. I believe
more comprehensive details are due to appear in the next issue of The
Vintage Triumph. I have spin-on adaptors on both my cars. One doesn't leak
at all, the other has a slight weep. A sensible accessory and entirely worth
having IMHO.
