I have a tiny leak in the cooling system on the TR4. I have the "long-neck"
radiator. The leak is where the upper radiator hose connects to the upper
radiator fitting. I figured that I might just as well replace the hose as
fiddle about with tightening the clamp and the like. The hose does not
appear brand new, but does not appear to be falling apart, either.
The question is: Do I need to get the original hose? The hose has several
"pleats" in it. I assume this is to allow it to stretch and shrink along
its axis. Is this a fairly-standard hose, or a rare part only available
from TRF and other mail-order places?
Will all heck break loose if I put a straight hose in the car instead of the
pleated type? Will longitudinal motion of the engine pull on the hose and
cause a failure?
