I missed the beginning of this thread but if you intend to isolate the
battery, a proper battery master switch running off the earth (ground)
is the way to go. If you check the manufacturer manuals, the
recommendation was always to disconnect the earth first.
This will be + or - depending on the age of the car. Rimmers sell a
neat device that allows you to isolate the high tension supply but
while this is terminated, there's a line fuse in place sufficient to
run a radio or an electric clock. Any attempt to start the engine
while battery isolated will blow the fuse. If the plan is to install a
simple anti-theft device, I've been putting a simple switch (hidden)
in the low tension circuit between the coil and distributor. You *can*
switch off this way but it's a bad habit to adopt.
