Unfortunately, since junk yards became "auto recycles"
this is the way things are. A car that hangs around more that a couple of
years is costing them money. It's better to scrap it and make room for a
newer model that they can sell parts off of.
About 2 years back, I was calling around looking for a alloy wheel for my
'84 VW GTI. I was shocked at the number of "We don't have anything that old
in the yard"
replies I got.
