Engine rebuild costs have gone up a bunch since I was in the business. I got 
a quote the other day from a local shop for an MGB short 
block.......$1500.00! It used to be that you could get a short block with 
everything new for $800.00. The complete motor  now runs 4k! The explanation 
was that since the motors are older now there is more machine work involved. 
Of course the rates have increased and parts too. 4 K  seemes like a lot 
still.
