This talk about buying/selling reminds me of what my (then) boss and his
brother did a few years ago. They went to look at an E Type Jaguar
which was advertised at £26000, and was in immaculate condition. My
boss's brother took the car for an unaccompanied test drive with my
boss. After about five miles they stopped in a factory turn in and
my boss took over the driving. The turn in was in a bend. A mini came
around the bend just as my boss was edging the E Type out on to the
road. The ensuing crash wrote off the bonnet of the Jag. They had the
audacity to take the car back to the seller and NOT buy it or offer to
pay for the repairs (about £6 - 8000 worth) He had driven the car less
then ten feet..... My boss's brother is a solicitor and there was a
court case. Apparently my boss (who has since left the company) and his
brother fell out over the incident and no longer speak to each other.
They had to pay up for the repairs of course (and they could afford it).
The seller was lucky I guess !

Personally I would never let anyone drive a car that I was selling
unaccompanied - I hate letting anyone drive my TR4 anyway !!
