I replaced an Audiovox AM/FM cassette with a Sony AM/FM CD, so it
shouldn't be the radio.

Jack, Are you using the original British Leyland radio
or another dealer
installed radio? I did the same thing and replaced my
kidney speakers with
some Jenson speakers. The sound i got after replacing
them was no better than
before. A friend said that my original British Leyland
radio was more or less
junk and to get decent sound i should replace the radio.
So when i go to
Carlisle in a few week im looking for a new piece where
the radio is
installed and going to convert to a 90s style radio
(with a CD player) and
save my original radio just to have it. And yes, rear
speakers will make a
world of difference when mounted on the rear shelf.
