Bill,
I would not expect the car to have a U to designate that it is a US
market car.  That was (I believe) unique to later Triumphs and certainly
after 1967.  So that probably is not the best indicator in this
particular case.  Even the early Spitfires did not have an indicator
until the US safety and emissions specifications went into effect.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your new acquisition (regardless of what if
looks like).  8^)
