I found the best way is to get two good size hammers... Hold one against the
back side of the 'eye' the tapered stub of the ball joint runs through and
whack the opposite side of the 'eye' with the second hammer two or three
times.  Your not trying to drive the pin out here just hit the sides of the
piece the ball joint shaft runs through.  The hammer blows slightly elongate
the hole just enough to allow the tapered shaft to loosen.  I never seen any
damage using this trick.
