Well, unless you've got bags of money to hurl at the car, I'd suggest
selling it and using the proceeds to get a rustfree car.  

OR invest the money and the time, and get the equipment & experience
necessary to do the job.  (This is what I'm doing)

I wish I could help you on a guesstimate of how much time it takes... but
that's really something that depends on how thorough the mechanic is.  If
the old parts are slagged off with a cutting torch, and new ones MIGed in,
then the whole thing might take 3 or 4 days.  If it's done "proper"...
weeks, maybe months.
