Richard,

Your '73 should not have a ballast resister, they were added commencing with
the '74 model. If you did have one, it would be a piece of pink and white
wire, looking sorta like a shoelace, and buried in the wiring harness where
you couldn't see it. It is listed as item 9 or 48 on the schematics for the
years that do have it.

To be sure (always a good idea with any triumph, especially if it is close to
a transition model), take a look at the wire to the plus terminal of your
present coil. If it is white, you don't have one. If it is white/yellow, you
do.

sports coil.
