>I've just replaced the water pump and thermostat on my TR3A, and found
that the engine runs about 5-10 degF hotter. The replacement thermostat
is the modern type which, when it opens, allows water to flow to the
radiator, but unlike the original (which was broken), has no sleeve to
close off the re-circulating flow to the head. Has anyone found the
same thing, and, more to the point, does anyone know a source for the
original type thermostats with the sleeve to close the recirculating
line?

Neil, we just finished discussing some options. Some say to
plug the recirculating flow pipe. I prefer the idea of getting a
replacement skirted thernostat. The only known new ones (to me)
are available from XKs Unlimited. The thermostat is intended for
the XK120-140, but will fit the tr2-4A. It is a 160 degree, though.
People who have used it report good results. Please let me know
how it goes. I am considering fabricating similar ones but
set to 185 correct degrees.
