Brian...

If you want to replace the top of the dash... you need to remove the
windshield frame... but believe me... it's a simple task... follow the
directions... the only problems I've run into, on various TR 4s & 4A's
(same windshield frame as 6) is that they sometimes get a little stuck due
to corrosion, etc.. The last time this happened... after loosening
everything... I heated up the end under the dash... not all that much...
(i.e. not red hot or anything like that!!!) and this "broke" the seize...

What makes this job easy for you is that you are thinking to do it all at
once... this is good. Follow the directions... they're pretty accurate...
removing the windshield frame and dashboard will make this job relatively
painless.

I recommend removing wires/cables, etc. one at a time, and labeling them...
(i.e. a piece of tape on the connector and on the guage, etc...) so that
you won't mix 'em up.

I can think of other things... but I'm sure others will fill the gap.

don't let this job intimidate you. It's very straight forward and quite
rewarding.
