<<Ok so primer is porous and hence not much protection...
So if I am in the process of paint removal, what should I use to protect
the newly uncovered metal from the ravages of the tin worm...
A light dusting of waxoil maybe, but will I be able to remove it without
leaving any residue which might effect the paint job when I can afford to
have it done!!
                Any other suggestions..
                                Cheers

I don't know what's available over there, but I've used
urethane primer/filler with excellent results. Protects
bare metal without any other topcoat _and_ provides
a great base for the eventual paint job.

MUCH different from the standard primers I've used
over the years (which have exactly the same problems
you describe).

Downside: Expensive and very toxic to be used by
amateurs without proper protective equipment.
