TR6 ZS carb problem

Thanks, Joe and Irv for the replies to my query.  The float levels are
correct, and the needles were set flush when we started.  I guess I
should rephrase the question.

What exactly do the bypass valves do, and how do you know when they're
bad?  Symptoms?

What about the temperature compensators?

Surely someone has run into carb balance and idle speed difficulty with
these things.
