John,
I really don't think it matters as long as there are no sharp bends in the
cable. I think I ran mine underneath when I replaced it on my last TR6. One
word of caution, don't let the speedo cable seize because it will take out the
angle drive. Also if you use the longer speedo cable you don't even need
the angle drive. TRF didn't tell me that until I lost the new angle drive after
about 10 feet.
